Minimally Invasive Surgery
The Surgical Associates approach is about maximizing your quality of life. That’s why our skilled physicians utilize minimally invasive techniques that provide you less trauma during surgery, quicker recovery time and less scarring. All of these benefits allow you to return to your normal activities as quickly as possible.
Minimally invasive procedures first appeared on the surgical scene in the late 1980s but have continued to grow in popularity because of their many advantages over traditional “open” procedures. Special instruments allow our highly trained physicians to make smaller incisions with fewer side effects.
While the specifics vary widely based on the operation, minimally invasive techniques typically require a long, flexible tube called an endoscope, which has a small camera and light on the end. When entered into your body through a small incision, the endoscope allows your surgeon to see what is happening on a screen in the operating room. When necessary, your surgeon may introduce other tools that allow him to do the procedure through additional small incisions.
